Books for June, July

The book club I'm in just finished reading a book of short stories entitled Interpreter of Maladies. It was very well-written. I just wish I could remember the author's name right now. Short stories are so great. You have about 20 pages to make your point. To do that well is a gift. The book club is reading Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane (the Mystic River guy) for July. I read that one last summer and it's a great poolside book. It moves really fast and the ending is twisty. You'll love it.

I've also just finished reading Just One Look by Harlan Coben. I got turned on to him two years ago and I'm just crazy for anything he writes. It's all kind of the same after a while, but he just keeps you guessing and you can't stop yourself from reading. LOTS of twists in his books. Great for poolside.

I'm currently starting to read Miracle at Philadelphia. My mom saw a thing on the CSPAN book channel or something and about five historians said if there's one book everyone should read, it's this one. The book is about the US Constitution and how it was written.

I am excited to read My Friend Leonard by James Frey this summer too. He's the one who wrote A Million Little Pieces. If you haven't read Million you must go to your library or book store RIGHT NOW and get it. It's the best book I've ever read. I hope the next one is just as good.

Summer reading list (this is in addition to whatever I'll need to read for book club and in no particular order):
Miracle at Philadelphia
East of Eden
My Friend Leonard
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Eldest

Wow, it's been a while, huh?

You know, I think about blogging a lot and then I don't do it. I like the idea of blogging simply because it's an anonymous way to float my thoughts. No one I know is aware of where my blog resides. I suppose they could find it if they really tried, but I doubt they will. It's nice to have this one place where no one knows me, but I'm still out there.

In the coming months there are several things I want to write about:
  • government schools and my ambivalence about them
  • my so-called crisis of faith (or the fact that I have no faith right now)
  • books I'm reading and have read and why I did or didn't like them
